Today’s post highlights the Spirit of Sports with the Spirit of an Athlete.
Former Olympic athlete Anthony Whiteman is the perfect example of Spirit of Sports with the Spirit of an Athlete. Anthony a friend and local based athlete set a New World Veterans Record last weekend, Anthony who is 40 yrs old won his 1,500m race at the Inter City Challenge at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London with a world record breaking time of 3.44.12. No one over the age of 40 has ever run 1,500 faster indoors, Anthony really is a unique athlete and like ‘The Spirit of Sports‘ is one of a kind!
“Runner Profile” sets the viewer into the heart of the action of a fast-paced run. The strong colors and free-flowing forms spill out of the painting into the atmosphere surrounding it.
Sport becomes a metaphor for everything you do in life. Of all the amazing things that happen when you return a winner……
Anthony represented Great Britain over and 800m and 1500m for ten years from 1995 to 2005, the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He was also Dame Kelly Holmes’ training partner at the Olympic training camp in Cyprus prior to her gold medal winning performances at Athens 2004.
Speed, spirit and perseverance are brightly splashed across “Runner Sprint.” The strong colors and free-flowing forms spill out of the painting into the atmosphere surrounding it.
So what does the The Spirit of Sports mean to Anthony… ‘Competition, ability to race against who is the best’ Anthony hopes his ultimate Dream will come true, by becoming the first ever man over 40 to run a sub-four minute mile outdoors at the Prefontaine Classic event that will take place 2nd June Oregon USA.
The Prefontaine Classic is one of the premier track and field meets in the United States. Every year it draws a world caliber field to compete at the University of Oregon‘s Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Originally started as the Hayward Field Restoration Race, in 1975 the name was changed to the Prefontaine Classic after legendary University of Oregon distance runner and Olympian Steve Prefontaine was killed in a car accident a week prior to the meet. Nike has been the primary sponsor since 1978.
